Sample home inspection reports

Below are sample reports. Each report is shown in some different available printing formats. The same inspection report with the same data is used, but different formats and styles demonstrate a different layout (the printing style can be chosen when printing or uploading a report, or by going to "File - Printing Options"). The format of the report is chosen in the HomeGauge home inspection software after you have completed the inspection and go to print the report. Hardware requirements for creating a great report:

Pocket PC Requirements:

Pocket HG will run on any Pocket PC that has Windows Mobile 5 or Windows Mobile 6 and a 240x320 (QVGA) screen. Any new Pocket PC that is running Windows Mobile 5 or 6 will have enough storage and memory to run Pocket HG. You may want to consider getting the models with more memory and storage for convenience, or if you plan on using it for other tasks. Also, getting one that has wireless network abilities can be useful if you have a wireless network in your home. Only use a Pocket PC phone model if it has a 240x320 (QVGA) resolution touch sensitive screen! The phones with the smaller screens will not run HomeGauge well. Also, phones labeled as SMARTPHONES will not work. Smartphones do not have a touch sensitive screen and will not run Pocket HG. If you are looking at a phone to use with Pocket HG, contact us and we can help determine if it will be compatible.

Apple Mac Notes: HomeGauge Home Inspection Software does not run as a native application on Mac OS computers. However we have several users that have reported no issues with using the technology that allows you to use a Mac, but also run Windows applications. You can use Parallels Desktop for Mac, VMWare Fusion or Bootcamp.

With pda's all but dead... how soon for an android app? My smart phone is better then my ipaq in every way. Feb 9, 2012 7:42 PM

I agree RMC, We need Mac. I have an iPad2 and it's great. Mike I will buy the software and complete it on the PC when you get it ready. Consider the time savings by taking a picture and dropping it into the comment photo section? This would boost Homeguage so far above the competition. Until then I'll wait it out CMI in S.C Feb 7, 2012 11:10 PM

I have been using HomeGauge for almost 6 years and love it but like other inspectors I am in need of a Mac version. I beg you to reconsider writing software for apple systems. My Toshiba tablet(only PC I own) is on it's last leg and when it goes I would love to never use a PC again! Please think about all of the customers you could gain that do not own a PC and don't want to buy one just to use your software. Apple computers is not going out of business, quite the opposite. A Mac version is long overdue. Jan 24, 2012 9:49 AM

At this time we don't have any plans to create a version for the Mac. We do have plans in the works for an iPhone/iPad version, but that will still probably require a Windows computer to complete the report. The software can be run using a program like Parallels. Jan 11, 2012 11:35 AM

I am very interested in when / if you will be making HG software for the MAC. I have been a HG Gold member for 6 years and would not use any other Inspection Software. But I really want to buy a new iMac and not sure if the software will be as smooth using Parallels or VMWareFusion. Any encouraging thoughts? Jan 5, 2012 2:36 PM

Yes on the iPads, which we'll do after we release our Android app. We don't have anything planned for regular Apple computers though. Dec 6, 2011 9:40 AM

To BBHI Knowing what you know now about the Dell Duo, would you recommend it for use...i currently use an HP handheld, and would like to use a tablet. Nov 22, 2011 4:41 PM

We have been using the Dell Insperion Duo Tablet now for about 2 months and have not had any problems. in the field we use it tablet style. When we get back to the office to finish up the report after loading the photos, we use the docking station and a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. The only complaint we have about the Duo is the tablets are SLOWER than the HP tablet we used previously. AND it doesn't have an SD card slot for loading pictures, an oversight when we bought it. We have to directly connect the camera. Oct 28, 2011 10:30 AM

RMI Home Inspections. We sampled about 5 other inspection software using their trail period software. The best that worked for us is HomeGauge and their user support group is the best! May 27, 2011 9:21 AM

I recetnly received a great comment from a Realtor I was maraketing to for the first time. I told her of the Home Gauge program of reporting, gave her the ID an password to view the report. Here is her response in the Gage section: Denny, Just so you know I came and looked. I like this, it's a very convenient way to store reports for your clients and for us to see and forward. No-one else i know of does this-cool. Have a great weekend. Very glad I made the change to Home Gauge. Feb 24, 2011 10:17 PM

You can easily make your own. We don't have a template that is just the roof and attic, but a lot of templates certainly include these sections. What I would recommend is starting with one of those -- in this case the "Room by Room" template may be the best one to start with -- remove all the sections you don't need, keeping the roof and attic section. From there you can add/edit the inspection items to include exactly what you want to include for your roof inspections. It will be easy to create your own custom template for this purpose. Go to Support/Training - Interactive Training on our website, then look at the tours under the heading "Template Basics - Interactive Training Tours" for tours on how to edit your HomeGauge templates. I have signed on to a on line referal service. They wanted to know if I can do Roof Inspections. Do you have a seperate template that can be down loaded for Roof Inspections including the attic space. rbittleman@q.com Jul 27, 2010 3:20 PM

There is a $250 discount for each additional license for the same company (the licenses must be activated with the same company name). There's also a $5 discount on monthly services. We can setup a team calendar for you, so you can view and control your contractor's calendar as well as your own. Setup as a team calendar, when someone goes to book an inspection, whoever has available time slots will show up. Or you can have separate calendars and you can have them all on your website. If you contact our sales department at 877-274-4299 they can answer any questions you have about this. Sep 25, 2009 1:50 PM

I am considering branching out to another county with a independent-contractor relationship. What would be the process and costs to add an inspector to my website (software, etc.) Would it be possible to use the same website with two different calendars? We aren't aware of an approval process by Citizens or other insurance companies. The HG format is a format that works for many situations, but you may want to contact any specific insurance company for more information on their requirements. May 27, 2009 5:23 PM

After trying two different reporting software programs, I wish I had saved myself all the time and agrevation (not to mention the cost) and just bought HomeGauge from the start. It is by far the best program I have ever seen or used. The Global Comments library is a great time saver when editing narratives, also, the Styles & Materials sections allow easy component descriptions not found in other programs. The report looks great, has good flow and the clients love it. The Homegauge support team is awesome and very helpful. Thank you Homegauge, you are the BEST! (just wish I got this program sooner). I am an independent contractor, and it is important to note that many inspection companies request that I submit my reports using the HomeGauge home inspection software. I want to take this moment first to say thank you HomeGauge for being there for me as a satisfied customer, and to let all the new inspectors trying to choose between inspection reporting software, to go with HomeGauge and you will be on tract for increasing your business through companies that request you use HomeGauge to submit your reports. I believe when it comes to customer service, the customer is always right, and for any concerns you have using HomeGauge, it is apparent to me HomeGauge keeps this old fashioned value as a priority, and when the filed inspectors talk, they hear you and respond.
